KAMPALA, (Examiner) – Throughout history, remarkable individuals have emerged from challenging situations to make a lasting impact on their communities. Amidst the trials of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kampala International University (KIU) faced its own difficulties but also witnessed the rise of an exceptional class.

The law cohort of 2020-2024 stands out for its resilience and achievement, notably becoming the first group across all KIU campuses to consecutively produce two guild presidents. Godfrey Agaba and Moses Ebye, classmates who enrolled at KIU in 2020, both rose to this leadership role despite the pandemic’s challenges.

Moses Ebye, who served as Chief Fresher for 2021/2022, became Guild President in 2022. His successor, Godfrey Agaba, served as an MP in the 2022/2023 Guild Government before assuming the presidency in 2023/2024. Sharif Ntume, the cohort’s coordinator, served as Minister for Constitutional Affairs in both guild governments.

“Our class has been exceptional, leading the institution for two consecutive years,” Ntume proudly states. Besides the two presidents, the cohort produced other influential leaders, including Enock Ssembalirwa, Speaker of the Guild in 2023/2024, and Livingstone Muhumuza, past speaker of the KIU Law Society.

Other prominent members include Shallon Poldo Shabohurira, Marvin Tamera Akankwasa, Ken Mugaiga, Daphine Arinda, David Musasizi, and Benard Katanzi. These leaders have significantly influenced student politics at KIU.

The class’s unity, humility, and dedication to success have been key to their achievements. Ntume explains their strong sense of community: “We always supported financially constrained classmates and came together during personal hardships and celebrations.”

Dr. Valentine Mbeli, Head of the Department of Commercial Law at KIU, praises the class for its discipline, commitment, and respect. He believes they represent the future of Ugandan and East African legal professionals.

As their journey at KIU ends, Ntume pledges to keep the class united through their WhatsApp platform, ensuring they remain connected in both joy and sorrow. The class expresses gratitude to KIU for nurturing them into visionary citizens and equipping them with both academic knowledge and soft skills.
