Summary:

  • Munyagwa criticized Ugandan artists for performing at both opposition and ruling regime events due to lack of standards. He praised Cindy Sanyu for maintaining integrity and announced he’d attend her concert.

KAMPALA, (Examiner) – Munyagwa shared his views on why local artists frequently perform at events hosted by both the opposition and ruling regime. He pointed out that many artists lack self-imposed standards, making it easy for them to engage in such dual roles for financial gain.

He urged them to emulate past icons like Philly Bongole Lutaaya, Paul Kafeero, and Sebaata, emphasizing that these legends never allowed themselves to be exploited; they understood their value and were respected accordingly.

Munyagwa lamented the current state of Ugandan artists, comparing them to ubiquitous soda at every event, switching allegiances from one political gathering to another without integrity or principle.

He criticized this trend, stating that once an artist positions themselves solely for hire without ethical considerations, their value diminishes. He contrasted this with artists like Cindy Sanyu and Navio, who have maintained their integrity and elevated their professional worth by refusing to be exploited.

Furthermore, Munyagwa expressed his admiration for Cindy Sanyu’s conduct and announced his intention to attend the Blu*3 Reunion concert at Kampala Sheraton Hotel on June 22nd, impressed by her decency and maturity.
