Data Input Delays Mosquito Net Distribution in Luwero

Luwero District | BLACK EXAMINER | Health authorities in Luwero District have had to postpone the distribution of mosquito nets until further notice due to a delay in data input by sub-county officials. The campaign, known as ‘Under the Net,’ was initiated in response to government efforts to reduce Malaria morbidity and mortality, beginning in districts with the highest Malaria prevalence. While net distribution started in other regions, Luwero District was set to conduct its distribution on Saturday, October 21.

However, Luwero District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Innocent Nkonwa, issued a statement on Friday evening explaining that the exercise had been deferred because some sub-counties failed to enter the necessary data into the digital platform. The district plans to conduct a mop-up exercise over the weekend to ensure data harmonization from all sub-counties.

The government, in collaboration with The Global Fund and the Against Malaria Foundation, intended to distribute 28.5 million mosquito nets across the country through this campaign. The primary goal was to encourage consistent net use, repair, repurposing, and address social norms that hinder net utilization. It is well-documented that mosquito nets can reduce childhood mortality by up to 25 percent.
