Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Dismisses Reports Saying Parliament Refused to Pay Ssegirinya’s Medical Bill

During a recent plenary session, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa refutes claims that the Parliament has declined to cover the medical expenses for Kawempe North MP Muhammed Ssegirinya’s treatment abroad. Tayebwa states that the medical board responsible for approving such payments hasn’t received Ssegirinya’s application regarding his health condition. Additionally, both the Speaker and the Office of the Clerk have not received any formal communication from Ssegirinya regarding his request for assistance.

Ssegirinya, who is currently ill, expressed concerns to the press, mentioning that he might have to perform tasks like hospital laundry if he can’t settle the hospital bills amounting to Shillings 80 million. He shares that the Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands, where he has been receiving treatment, presented him with the choice of either cleaning the hospital or laundering its bedsheets in case he cannot pay the money.
