IGANGA, (Examiner) – The State House Health Monitoring Unit has arrested three top officials from Iganga Hospital on allegations of corruption and causing financial loss to the government.

The arrested individuals are:

  • Dauda Mugoya, Senior Medical Superintendent
  • Micheal Isabirye, Senior Accountant
  • Ramathan Mugolofa, Hospital Administrator

The arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation led by Dr. Julian Nabatanzi and Dr. Brian Arinaitwe, targeting health facilities in the Busoga sub-region.

The investigation revealed that these officials not only caused financial losses to the hospital but were also unqualified for their positions. “First of all, the Hospital Administrator and his accountant lack the minimum education levels in any field to occupy those offices,” stated the unit. They further confirmed that consultations with the human resources department verified the officials’ lack of qualifications.

Background checks on Ramathan Mugolofa showed that he has been shielded from accountability despite previous financial mismanagement in the district. Notably, Mugolofa is a brother to the District Woman MP, Saida Alibawo.

The suspects are also accused of forging documents, leading to a financial loss of up to Shs150 million. Additional allegations include the establishment of illegal private rooms within the hospital, irregularities in the deployment of nursing students, lack of medicine accountability, and forgeries in fuel usage.

Beyond the trio, State House has also questioned the hospital statistician and the person in charge of inventory, accusing them of occupying positions without performing their duties.
