BUTALEJA | THE BLACK EXAMINER – A nurse from Busolwe General Hospital in Butaleja District has gone missing after failing to obtain a promotion. Scovia Namataka, 33 years old, left behind a suicide note after feeling frustrated for not being promoted to an Assistant Nursing Officer, despite having over 10 years of service and additional qualifications.
Ms. Namataka had hoped that recent academic upgrades would pave the way for her promotion. The note reads “More than 10 years of service with added qualifications, no promotion! I can’t even be shortlisted for an interview. Why? Why? Why? Butaleja Local government, give my people answers. R.I.P.” The nurse who has been serving at the facility since 2013, vanished on May 28 after leaving her rental room.
After her children, aged 3 and 6 months old, alerted concerned nurses to their cries, they were found locked in a room by the investigating police team. The hospital staff also recovered a suicide note, leading to investigations that indicate the missing nurse applied for a promotion to Assistant Nursing Officer but was not shortlisted. Family members told the press that Ms.
Namataka had been conned out of Shs5 million by individuals who allegedly promised to guarantee her promotion. According to Bukedi South regional police spokesperson, Johnson Moses Mugwe, the authorities are still investigating the case, and he urged anyone, especially parents and children suffering from depression, to seek help from the police and social workers.
Meanwhile, Butaleja District has been under investigation for corrupt activities such as irregular staff recruitment, with the IGG looking into other cases of corruption in the district.
