Rukiga District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Dr. Slyvia Alineitwe Mwanaki, Deputy Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), inaugurated an orthopedic medical camp at Mparo Health Center IV in Mparo town council, Rukiga district on Monday.
Dr. Mwanaki’s initiative to organize the camp was born out of her encounters with individuals grappling with orthopedic challenges, particularly joint and back pain. She stressed the importance of maintaining good health even amid the daily struggles for livelihood.
Additionally, Dr. Slyvia Mwanaki encouraged the residents of Rukiga to unite and collaborate for the betterment of their communities.
At the camp’s launch, Dr. Godfrey Mucunguzi, the In-charge of Mparo Health Center IV in Rukiga district, highlighted the significance of being mindful of physical exertion. He emphasized that strenuous activities and heavy lifting can lead to orthopedic problems.
Dr. Mucunguzi shared that the health center typically serves 300 to 400 patients every month, with around 30 critically ill patients referred to Mbarara and Kabale Regional Referral hospitals.

He underscored the need for individuals to be aware of the risks associated with heavy lifting and overexertion, as excessive strain on muscles, ligaments, and joints can result in orthopedic issues. This risk is particularly pronounced among manual laborers like construction workers, farmers, and laborers.
Dr. Mucunguzi advised people to allocate time for rest and relaxation between periods of intense physical activity, which can aid in recovery and reduce the likelihood of orthopedic problems.
