Summary:

  • A manhunt is underway in Namutumba, Uganda, for Alifari Obaga, who allegedly murdered his wife, Margret Nayobe, over a dispute involving Shs2,000 she received from a suspected lover.

A manhunt is currently in progress in Namutumba District, eastern Uganda, as authorities search for Alifari Obaga, a 30-year-old man accused of murdering his 28-year-old wife, Margret Nayobe. The alleged motive behind the crime is a dispute over Shs2,000 that Nayobe received from a suspected lover.

The tragic incident occurred at their residence in Nakawano Village, Kizuba Sub-county, on Sunday night. According to a neighbor, Ms Esuka Logose, the conflict between the couple began around 1 pm that day, leading Nayobe to express her desire to leave. Despite initial efforts to reconcile them, the situation escalated.

Later in the evening at approximately 10:30 pm, Obaga approached a neighbor, claiming he had received information about his wife receiving money from a man suspected to be her lover. The neighbor advised him to postpone addressing the issue until the next morning. Tragically, Obaga returned home and allegedly killed his wife.

Patrick Mulumba, the area defense secretary, revealed that Obaga had harbored plans to harm his wife for the past two years due to allegations of adultery. Regrettably, he fulfilled this intention.

Isa Gulere, the youth councilor representing Nawansagwa Parish, disclosed that Obaga had no legitimate job and was financially dependent on the deceased. Jane Namukuve, the Namutumba Police Community Liaison Officer, condemned the act as an instance of domestic violence. She urged men to fulfill their responsibilities and announced that the police were actively seeking Obaga to charge him with murder.
