Kisoro District | The Black Examiner – The Territorial Police in Kisoro District has reported a single serious accident involving a motor vehicle registered as UBG 645E, a black Toyota Hiace. The vehicle was being driven by Batumbya Dan, a 46-year-old Muganda resident of Kigombya village, Gulu ward, Mukono District. The incident occurred on 25/08/2023 around 08:00 hrs at Kibande village, Muhindura parish, Kanaba sub-county, Kisoro District, along the Kabale-Kisoro road.
The victims of the accident are as follows:
- Bahati Faustine – 36-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Bizimana Nfamushobora – 38-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Pascazia Ntawindurindi – 42-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Muhimbo Oliver – 17-year-old female juvenile, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Shirimpuwe Kadodo – 47-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Faraha Sifu – 21-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Eriranze Sofia – 33-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Habyarimana Ntaugirawe – 36-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Nsekera Budoma – 38-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Olivia Emerance – 27-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Nyirasinunvayo Marensi – 50-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Mukarukundo Merive – 38-year-old female, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Kinamubanze Gistanve – 42-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Nzabakurikiza Ntegeimisi M/a – 41-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Hakizimana Luke – 32-year-old male, Congolese refugee at Rwamwanja Refugee Camp
- Nyakaranbi Olivia – 40-year-old female, Ugandan resident of Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro District
- Mukamutara Veneranda – 38-year-old female, Ugandan resident of Muramba Sub-county in Kisoro District
- The driver of the motor vehicle reg number UBG 645E
- 6 unidentified juveniles
Reportedly, the motor vehicle was traveling from Rwamwanja Refugee Camp via Kabale to Kisoro with 17 adult passengers, 6 juveniles, and 3 Ugandans, including the driver. Upon reaching Kibande village in Muhindura parish, Kanaba sub-county, along the Kabale-Kisoro road, the vehicle failed to negotiate a corner while sloping and overturned on the right side of the road.
Upon receiving the information, the police promptly responded to the scene led by ASP Kushaba Micheal and his team. The victims were rushed to Mutolere Hospital and Kisoro Hospital using an ambulance and Kisoro police patrol car UP 7644. The motor vehicle was towed to Kisoro CPS pending IOV inspection.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Sub-region Police Spokesperson, the accident was attributed to reckless driving by the driver and over speeding. The case file of the serious accident was registered at Kisoro CPS under reference number TAR: 42/2023, as investigations into the matter are underway.
