23-Year-Old Assaults 96-Year-Old Grandmother in Bushenyi

Bushenyi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Bushenyi Police are currently probing a distressing incident in which a 23-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 96-year-old woman to death.

Martial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police, has identified the victim as Anyesi Tirerebwa, a resident of Kayojo Cell, Ruharo Ward, Central Division, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality.

Tumusiime has further revealed that the suspect in question is Richard Byaruhanga, a casual worker living in the same area, and the deceased woman’s grandson.

According to Innocent Tumwebaze, the Chairperson of Kayojo Village (LC 1), who reported the incident to the police, the suspect had initially visited the family at around 7 am, complaining of a severe headache. Later in the day, at approximately 4 pm, he forcibly entered the residence, broke the door, and attacked the elderly woman while she was in bed. He demanded that she pray for him, pushing her and causing her to strike her head on the floor, leading to her instant demise. After the incident, the suspect managed to flee and has since gone into hiding.

The police have transported the deceased’s body to KIU Hospital in Ishaka for a postmortem examination as they intensify efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect.
