Rubanda District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Rubanda District police have apprehended 25-year-old Catherine Kyampeire for the alleged murder of her 4-month-old son, Devine Ainembabazi.

Both were residents of Mungara Cell, Kyenyi Parish, Muko Sub County, Rubanda District.

On October 5, 2023, around 7:00 PM, Kyarisiima Dorotia, Catherine’s mother, returned home to find Catherine missing with the baby. Catherine did not provide information when questioned, leading Kyarisiima to believe the baby was asleep.

Around 8:00 PM, while Kyarisiima was away on an extended call, she heard the baby crying in the pit latrine. She sought help from neighbors who retrieved the baby, but sadly, the infant passed away shortly after.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the scene was visited, documented, and a postmortem conducted. The body was then handed over to relatives for burial.

Maate revealed that Catherine, the suspect, has a history of mental illness and had been under medication at Kabale Referral Hospital for over ten years. Following the incident, she underwent examination, confirming her mental health condition. She was returned to relatives for hospitalization and continued treatment.
