Rubanda District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | In Rubanda, territorial police have apprehended 25-year-old Catherine Kyampeire for the alleged murder of her 4-month-old son, Devine Ainembabazi. Both were residents of Mungara Cell in Kyenyi Parish, Muko Sub-County, Rubanda District.
The incident occurred on October 5, 2023, at around 19:00 hrs at their residence. Kyarisiima Dorotia, Catherine’s mother, arrived home to find her daughter without her baby. When questioned, Catherine did not provide a clear answer, leading Kyarisiima to believe that the baby was sleeping.
Around 20:00 hrs, as Kyarisiima went for an extended bathroom break, she heard the baby crying from the pit latrine. She called for assistance from neighbors, who retrieved the baby from the latrine. Sadly, the infant passed away shortly after.
Kyarisiima reported the incident herself, and the scene was visited and documented. A postmortem was conducted at the scene, and the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had a history of mental illness and had been receiving treatment at Kabale referral hospital for over a decade. Following the incident, she underwent an examination that confirmed her mental illness, and she was returned to her relatives for further medical care.
