On the 6th of August, at approximately 10:00 am, a marine police boat engaged in a rescue mission to recover missing persons who had drowned earlier this week encountered a devastating accident on Lake Victoria. While on its way back to the shore after successfully retrieving a body from the water, the boat capsized due to strong winds prevailing on the lake. Fortunately, all five dedicated Marine officers who were aboard the capsized boat have been rescued alive.

This distressing occurrence highlights the unpredictable nature of the lake and the challenging conditions that our committed Marine officers bravely face in the execution of their life-saving duties.

An ongoing investigation is underway, and we will provide further details as soon as they become available. Our utmost priority remains focused on ensuring the safety of our personnel and the public during rescue operations and patrols on Lake Victoria. The efforts to retrieve additional missing bodies from the accident earlier this week are still ongoing.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the rescuers who have been instrumental in successfully retrieving the missing person’s bodies and promptly rescuing our officers. Their bravery and dedication are truly commendable.

The Marine Police department reaffirms its commitment to upholding safety protocols and measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. We will continue to collaborate closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to enhance safety and rescue operations on Lake Victoria.
