Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | In September, over 800 drivers were apprehended during traffic operations targeting individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and exceeding the specified speed limit on the Entebbe Express Highway.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the traffic police, reported that 857 drivers were arrested as part of the FIKA Salama Extra operations carried out along the Entebbe Express Highway and various roads within the Kampala Metropolitan policing Area during September this year.
All the detained drivers were issued Express Penalty Scheme (EPS) tickets, amounting to two hundred thousand shillings, before being released.
Kananura also disclosed that 569 motorcycles were seized in operations conducted the previous week, targeting riders lacking the necessary permits to operate on the road.
Additionally, there were 281 road accidents recorded across the country last week, resulting in approximately 71 fatalities and leaving 287 individuals with injuries.
