The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a distinguished delegation from Nigeria’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) on July 8th, marking a significant moment of bilateral engagement.

Led by Rear Admiral A.A. Adesope (rtd), the acting head of the delegation and staff director, discussions centered on NIPSS’s pivotal role in fostering reflection, research, and dialogue on critical issues spanning Nigeria, Africa, and the global landscape.

Highlighting NIPSS’s flagship program designed for top-level leaders across diverse sectors including public, private, military, police, and civil services, Rear Admiral Adesope underscored Uganda as a compelling study model. He emphasized shared pre-colonial histories and burgeoning youth populations as compelling parallels between the two nations.

“Uganda’s effective strategies in youth unemployment management and sustainable job creation are exemplary for Africa,” remarked Rear Admiral Adesope. The delegation aims to glean insights from Uganda’s successful utilization of ICT for job creation, seeking to replicate similar advancements in Nigeria.

In response, Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, represented by Ambassador Phillip Odida, acting director of Regional & International Peace and Security, lauded the Nigerian delegation’s visit. He stressed the importance of collaborative knowledge-sharing in addressing mutual challenges, emphasizing regional cooperation as indispensable for shared prosperity.

“Promoting growth, development, and regional integration remains critical in overcoming our common challenges,” noted Ambassador Odida.

The productive meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude from the Nigerian delegation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by Uganda. It reaffirmed Nigeria’s steadfast commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, underscoring a future strengthened by collaboration and shared learning.
