Kasese District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | One hundred thirty-eight Rwenzururu Royal guards were yesterday granted certificates of amnesty, accompanied by a call urging Allied Democratic Force rebels and their associates to surrender and avail themselves of the Amnesty Commission’s provisions.
Following the ceremony held at Rwenzori Square in Kasese Municipality, Major Ronald Ssekatawa, the Coordinator for Amnesty Commission in charge of Rwenzori Region, addressed the press. He emphasized that the Government of Uganda is prepared to receive, forgive, rehabilitate, and collaborate with any negative forces in Uganda, provided their members renounce rebellion.
Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga, the Rwenzururu Premier and former Member of the 6th Parliament, as well as secretary to the parliamentary committee credited with proposing the Amnesty Commission in Uganda, highlighted that the Directorate of Public Prosecution had given two options to the accused persons from the kingdom: either to enter a plea bargain or seek amnesty, with the latter being the choice of those involved.
Ms. Christine Muhindo, Senior Presidential Advisor for Rwenzori Affairs, cautioned community members against idleness, emphasizing that wrong elements might exploit their vulnerability and lead them into lawlessness. She called upon Kingdom Ministers to advocate for Rwenzururu subjects with their counterparts in the government of Uganda.
