A multi-agency team consisting of sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), regular police officers and officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have launched a manhunt for former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
Nairobi News has established that Mr Munya is a wanted man because he failed to appear before an anti-corruption court to testify in an Sh68 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams’ corruption case against former Treasury CS Henry Rotich.
The warrant of arrest against Mr Munya was issued by Milimani Magistrate Eunice Nyutu after DCI officers failed to produce him in court. The investigating officer is Mr Douglas Chege.
“I order Munya to present himself in court by 11:15 a.m. His warrant of arrest still stands,” Magistrate Nyutu ordered.
The Magistrate also declined an explanation by Mr Munya’s lawyer on why the former CS did not appear in court on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
A DCI sleuth who spoke to Nairobi News said that officers had already been dispatched to arrest the former CS.
“Already, some officers have been dispatched to arrest the former CS. The officers have been sent to his Nairobi and Meru homes,” said the detective sought anonymity as he was not authorised to address the media.
In March 2019, Mr Munya told the police that a top Cabinet official phoned him twice, pushing him to approve the release of Sh4 billion for the two dams.
He also said that a Principal Secretary also attempted to pressure Mr Munya into signing the documents, but he refused.
Mr Munya told the police, in a statement, that he refused to sign because he was new to the ministry and he had noticed a lot of pressure from people he believed had vested interests.
