A security guard assigned to Kigezi Health Centre III in Mirya Sub County, Masindi district, has passed away, reportedly due to poisoning, following a burglary at the health center during his duty hours.

The deceased, Ayesiga Steven, aged 42 and a resident of Bigando Cell, Bigando Ward, Kigulya Division, Masindi Municipality, was confirmed dead this morning at Masindi General Hospital.

Allegedly, Ayesiga ingested a poisonous substance upon learning that he might be detained by the police. Muhammad explained, “In the process of arresting him, he took poisonous substances, and this prompted us to take him to the hospital for medication.”

Ayesiga Robinah, the deceased’s wife, revealed that her husband had been dealing with stress, compounded by ulcers and stomach complications. She stated, “My husband has been battling with ulcers and stomach complications; he told me that he was so stressed before he died.”

Basemera Margret, the mother of the deceased, attributed her son’s death to stress and called for government compensation, linking it to the missing mosquito nets.

Ayesiga Steven leaves behind three children. As of the time of reporting, his lifeless body remained at Masindi General Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
