Assistant Inspector of Police Knocked Dead in Sheema

Sheema District | The Black Examiner – A police officer stationed at Sheema Central Police Station in Sheema District met with an accident on Saturday afternoon, losing his life after being struck by a speeding motor vehicle.

The incident took place in Kabwohe town within Sheema municipality at approximately 12:30 PM. A speeding vehicle collided with Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Micheal PK Rutemba, 54 years old, dying on spot!

Marcial Tumusiime, the highly regarded spokesperson for Bushenyi Police, conveyed that the speeding vehicle struck the officer. AIP Rutemba had been serving as the head of the police station, responsible for coordinating the activities of fellow officers in their duty execution.

Tumusiime reported that the officer was hit by a silver Toyota Fielder with registration number UBH775M. The vehicle was being driven by Kamugisha Benson, 40 years old, from Nangabo-Kasangati-Wakiso District. Benson was traveling from Mbarara to Bushenyi along the Mbarara-Kasese highway.

The spokesperson added that AIP Rutemba was riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UEN 665T. He was approaching from the opposite direction and attempting to merge onto the road when a head-on collision occurred, leading to his immediate death.

As of now, the deceased’s body is been located at Kabwohe Health Center IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem procedures and transportation arrangements. Meanwhile, the suspected driver, Kamugisha Benson, is currently detained at Kabwohe Central Police Station. He is anticipated to face charges related to reckless driving.

AIP Micheal PK Rutemba, originally from Kanungu District, had recently achieved a promotion from sergeant to Assistant Inspector of Police. He had joined the police force in 1991.
