“Members of Buganda’s Lukiiko, the Buganda Parliament, have challenged Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga to clarify President Museveni’s land acquisition for Clan leaders near the Royal Mile in Mengo.
Henry Mubiru Kasakya representing Suubi Lyabuganda, Owek Noah Kawuma representing Bugerere county, and Fatumah Namugala of Mawogola county raised concerns about certain clan leaders’ access to President Museveni and his intention to buy them land near the Royal Mile.
Recent reports state that President Museveni purchased 2.2 acres of land in Rubaga division for Buganda clan leaders at a cost of Shs9.7 billion. This action stems from a promise he made in March after meeting the clan leaders at State House Entebbe.
Kasakya finds the situation potentially compromising, urging Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga to explain this matter to Lukiiko as it jeopardizes the stability of Buganda Kingdom.
In response, Katikkiro Mayiga refuted the allegations, stating an inquiry is ongoing to establish the truth. He warned against such actions, as they could endanger the throne. Mayiga also denied claims that Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II is aware of the plan.
Furthermore, Katikkiro Mayiga called upon Chief Justice Alfonso Owinyi Dollo to heed Kabaka’s request to expedite land dispute resolutions for peace and stability.”
