Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Police arrested 40 individuals, including Busiro South Member of Parliament Hon Matovu Charles, on charges of inciting violence as opposition leader Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, returned from mobilization tours in South Africa and Canada.

The arrest took place yesterday in a security operation with joint deployments, including overt and covert officers, strategically positioned, and snap checkpoints on roads leading to Entebbe and along Gayaza road.

SSP Patrick Onyango, the deputy Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, reported the recovery of items for processions, such as red berets, megaphone speakers, and “Kunga Uganda” branded T-shirts.

The arrested suspects underwent fingerprinting and profiling, and relevant statements were obtained.

Legal proceedings are imminent as police operations continue.

“Hon. Matovu Charles, Member of Parliament for Busiro South constituency, together with several of our supporters, are still under detention following their arrest as they peacefully wanted to welcome President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert yesterday.” National Unity Platform Twittered

The party added “As our legal teams do everything to follow up on these cases, we demand the unconditional release of all political prisoners because they have committed no crime.”
