Kabale District | THE SOURCE REPORTS | The Diocese of Kigezi, covering Kabale, Rukiga, and Rubanda Districts, is actively pursuing a fundraising goal of 600 Million Shillings for the construction of a tower at St. Peter’s Cathedral Church-Rugarama in Kabale District.
According to Can Johnson Baryantuma Munono, the head of laity in the Diocese, and Can Engineer Ivan Batuma, the architectural design of St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama was crafted by the Germans. The cathedral, opened by the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. George Leonard Carey, on May 11, 1998, holds historical significance.
Munono and Batuma revealed that the tower was initially planned for the older church cathedral, currently serving as the library for Bishop Barham University College. They shared that the tower’s features would include two vestries, washrooms, two offices, a boardroom, and a conference room.
During the thanksgiving service for Lay canons in the Diocese, dedicated to fundraising for the tower at St Peters Cathedral Rugarama, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament donated 100 bags of cement. She called on fellow Christians to embody God’s love through unity and mutual care. Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Honorable David Bahati, emphasized the importance of Christian unity and donated Ugx 26 Million towards the cause.
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, urged Christians to express gratitude to God and to use their talents and responsibilities to serve Him wholeheartedly.
A total of Ugx 85 Million and 510 bags of cement were collected through both cash and pledges during the fundraising efforts.
