Alex Kayanja Ssekandi, the son of former Ugandan Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, has sadly passed away after a two-week hospitalization at Lubaga Hospital.

Mr. Ssekandi, a former Speaker of Parliament, shared this heartbreaking news on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday. He expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “I regret to announce the sudden passing of my son, Alex Kayanja Ssekandi. Alex passed away yesterday at Lubaga Hospital, where he had been receiving medical care for the past two weeks. This is an incredibly challenging time for me and my family. Rest in Peace, my beloved son; I can’t believe you are no longer with us.”

Ms. Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, extended her condolences to Mr. Ssekandi’s family, stating, “I offer my heartfelt sympathies, on behalf of the Parliament of Uganda, to the family of our respected elder and leader, the former Speaker of Parliament and former Vice President, H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, on the loss of his son, Alex Kayanja Ssekandi. Your Parliament family stands with you during this difficult time, and we pray that the Lord provides strength and grants Alex’s soul eternal rest.”

Ssekandi served as Vice President for 10 years between 2011 and 2021 when he was dropped by President Museveni and appointed a presidential advisor.

However, little is known about his deceased son.
