Esther Linda Nigiwan’s Fraudulent Web

Finance officer, Esther Linda Nigiwan  who worked for an online digital lending company called Ryra Investment has been accused of swindling Shs49 Million from her employer through electronic fraud and receiving stolen property. Her fraudulent activities involved creating fictitious accounts and wiring money from the company’s repayment system to 30 mobile money numbers between July and December 2020.

As part of her responsibilities in the company, Nigiwan was in charge of managing sales, marketing, customer services, and overseeing loan releases to verified customer mobile money numbers. Using her knowledge of the system and passwords, she changed validated mobile money numbers in the system and initiated fraudulent transactions, leading to a loss of funds.

Even after her contract was terminated and passwords changed, the company continued to lose money to fraudulent numbers. The police forensic report confirmed her involvement, showing that she was in contact with recipients of the fraudulent funds.

In  2018, there were allegations on Twitter that she disappeared with a MacBook Pro and falsely claimed to be a marketing representative for Visa in Uganda.

As of the current situation, Nigiwan is awaiting further court proceedings and has been remanded until August 10 for cross-examination and a bail application hearing.
