Rukungiri District | The Black Examiner – Shock and fear engulfed residents of Matyazo village, Rukongi parish, in Kisoro district when a five-year-old boy, Aloysius Junior, was fatally stabbed by his alleged father over paternity doubts.

The murder case, recorded as SD 54/29/08/2023, was brought to the attention of the police by Detective Constable Pius Kansiime, attached to Kisoro police station.

Police have identified the suspect as Elias Kabeni, 31, a peasant and resident of Matyazo village, Rukongi parish, Nyarusiiza subcounty in Kisoro district.

ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, stated that it has been alleged that on Tuesday of this week at about 8 pm, Kabeni, who was the alleged victim’s father, picked him up from his grandmother.

The grandmother has been identified as Jovia Nyirasheriburyo, 65, who is also a resident of Matyazo village, Lukongi parish, Nyarusiiza subcounty in Kisoro district.

Kabeni allegedly went to pick up a key for his house, which he usually kept at his mother’s place, and also returned with the boy.

While on his way to his home, which is not very far from his mother’s home, Kabeni abruptly stabbed the boy to death.

“He allegedly killed him by cutting his throat and ran away. He later handed himself over to Kisoro Police Station,” ASP Mate said.

Police, led by SP Pius Asiimwe, the Kisoro police station officer in charge, visited the scene. Junior’s body was conveyed to Kisoro hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

ASP Mate said that an exhibit of the trousers worn by the suspect containing blood stains was recovered.

“It has been established that the suspect had an argument with his wife over the biological father of the child. He was informed by the wife that the child is not his. So he decided to kill the child,” ASP Mate said.
