Kagadi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The police in Kagadi are holding five suspects in the alleged strangulation of a 4-year-old child. Police have withheld the identities of the suspects for fear of compromising ongoing investigations. They are accused of strangling to death Noeline Basemera, a resident of Mugoija village in Kabamba sub-county, Kagadi district.

Basemera went missing from her parents’ home on Saturday last week under unclear circumstances. Her disappearance prompted her parents and residents to launch a search in vain. Concerned for the child’s safety, they contacted Kagadi police, who quickly initiated a search operation in collaboration with the local community.

However, on Sunday evening at approximately 6 p.m. the lifeless body of the child was discovered in a maize plantation within the same village.  The deceased’s father, Gilbert Lwagaliyo, recounted that his daughter went missing while playing with her friends.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that the police recovered the child’s body, which was subsequently transported to Kagadi General Hospital for a postmortem examination. The examinations revealed evidence of bruising on the neck, indicating that she had been strangled to death.

In response to the findings, the police arrested five suspects to aid in their ongoing investigations.
