Five Kitagwenda District Leaders Arrested Over Corruption

Kitagwenda District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The State House Health Monitoring Unit has arrested five Kitagwenda district local government staff on corruption allegations. Those arrested include Richard Ssebandeke (Chief Administrative Officer), Expedito Twineomujuni (Principal Assistant Secretary), Andrew Baguma (District Engineer), Mary Ahebwa (Assistant Engineer), and Patrick Kisembo (Acting Chief Finance Officer).

The arrests followed an assessment by Dr. Warren Namara, the head of the Unit, which revealed irregularities like procurement procedure violations, false accounting, and misappropriation of funds totaling over 150 million Shillings. Public complaints about poor service delivery in the health department prompted the Unit’s intervention.

The investigation uncovered theft of government health supplies, inflated renovation project costs, and other irregularities. The officials are currently detained at Kitagwenda Police Station, and their case files are being prepared for submission to the DPP for guidance.

Kitagwenda LCV Chairperson, Ismail Mushemeza, has called for the release of the suspects on bond during the ongoing investigations, citing disruptions in district operations caused by the arrests.
