Five individuals have been apprehended by the Hoima police in connection with a shootout that occurred during a visit by Dr. Sam Mayanja, the Minister of State for Lands, to the disputed land in Rwobunyonyi Village, located within Buraru Sub-county, Hoima District. These individuals are security guards working for Pyramid Security Group. The incident involved the discharge of firearm rounds.
Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, has identified the detained security guards as follows: Mr. Vincent Omara (28), Mr. Vincent Tusingwire (26), Mr. Cleophas Kansiime (22), Mr. Gad Mairiho (42), and Mr. Robert Abekan (25).
As per the information provided by the police officer, the five suspects are being held at the Hoima District Central Police Station in Kitoba sub-county. The incident occurred last week on Thursday, when the minister was visiting to mediate the land dispute between the residents of Rwobunyonyi and Mr. Fred Mugamba.
Hakiza has informed that the firearms used during the shooting have been seized by the police as evidence and are currently secured at the Hoima District Police Station.
The SP has stated that the case files for the suspects have already been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for legal guidance regarding the charges, which include allegations of making threats of violence.
SP Allan Hakiza further has advised supervisors within the region’s private security companies to consistently brief their employees about the necessary actions to take in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
