Govt Moves to Investigate Nakasongola and Amolatar Districts Amidst Contested Land Dispute

Saturday, August 5, 2023

The Government has issued a call for calm among the residents of Nakasongola and Amolatar districts as tensions rise over the disputed land claimed by Juliet Katushabe.

The call came after a meeting held yesterday at the Office of the Prime Minister, chaired by the Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi. During the meeting, top leadership from both districts convened to address the escalating situation. Minister Magyezi had obtained information that on the 9th of this month, residents of Nakasongola were planning to retaliate against the people of Amolatar. This came in the wake of an incident that took place on 16th July 2023, where properties worth millions of shillings were destroyed in Amolatar district.

The conflict revolves around a disputed land measuring 100 acres in Bungu Cell, Namasale Town Council in Amolatar district, which is claimed to be owned by Juliet Katusabe.

In a press conference at parliament, Minister Magyezi, accompanied by the affected district area MPs, revealed that as a result of the meeting, they have decided to initiate thorough investigations into the contested land to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja also intervened in the matter by meeting with the aggrieved parties and district security officials. During the meeting, it was agreed that both Juliet Katusabe and the law firm responsible for issuing the eviction letter would be subject to investigation, with prompt action to be taken against those found culpable.
