Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Ugandan government has released the examination results for students at the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) set to graduate on November 16, 2023.

During the announcement at the Ministry of Tourism Board Room in Kampala, Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities Minister Col (Rtd) Tom Butime revealed that 170 students have successfully completed their training and are prepared to enter the workforce. He praised the Institute’s management for producing highly skilled individuals who have significantly contributed to the sector’s growth.

Butime assured that the government will continue to allocate resources to support the training and development of the tourism workforce in the country. He also pledged ongoing government support for the sector and encouraged the graduating students to apply their skills to further enhance the industry.

The Institute’s Principal, Richard Kawere, reported that 84% of enrolled students have successfully completed their Certificates and Diplomas. Of the 170 upcoming graduates, 116 are female, and 54 are male, representing 68% and 32% respectively.

Kawere attributed the decrease in the number of graduates compared to the previous year to the impact of COVID-19 and some students’ failure to meet the Institute’s financial requirements.

Dr. Egau Jane, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at UHTTI, expressed appreciation for the government’s infrastructural developments at the Institute and the validation exercise that led to a change in leadership. She also thanked the government for the new salaries provided to staff and acknowledged their cooperation with the new administration.
