Govt Unveils New Campaigns to Boost Agriculture

Kampala, Uganda | The Black Examiner – Government through the office of the Prime Minister has launched a national campaign to boost agricultural activities, productivity and Value addition in the country.

While launching the campaign in Kampala, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja revealed that President Yoweri Museveni directed her to pay attention to this sector through the six policy guidelines to revamp agriculture in Uganda since 60 % of the entire population depends on farming.

Among the policy guidelines include disease control, agricultural mechanization and irrigation, farmers’ education, Partnerships, intervention in fisheries among others.

The same campaign will be launched in Greater Mubende sub-region from 18th -20th this month in districts that include Mityana, Kasanda, Mubende Municipality, Kyankwanzi and Kiboga.

The State Minister for Agriculture, Bwino Kyakulaga, noted that the government has come up with a technical desk whose experts will advise farmers on how to improve production, quality and add value to their produce in order to increase on foreign exchange earnings than taking farming for subsistence earning.
