Grade 1 Magistrate Caught in Malpractice at LDC

Saturday, July 29, 2023

The Law Development Center (LDC) has brought forth a case of malpractice to the attention of the police, involving a Grade 1 Magistrate.

In a press statement issued by Fred Nigel Othembi, the Director of LDC, it was revealed that the magistrate, who assumed the identity of Anthony Mukisa, illicitly took exams on behalf of Irene Mutonyi at the Lira campus.

Presently, LDC is conducting final examinations across its three campuses in Kampala, Lira, and Mbarara.

Upon investigation, the true identity of the perpetrator has been unveiled as Ssemwogerere Amaari Musa.

Othembi commented on the matter, stating, “We have ascertained that the individual known as Mukisa Anthony is, in fact, Ssemwogerere Amaari Musa, who holds the position of a recently appointed Grade 1 Magistrate in the Uganda judiciary. We have promptly reported this issue to the Judicial Service Commission and the Judiciary.”

A separate statement by the Judiciary also confirmed Semwogerere as a grade one magistrate appointed recently by the Judicial Service Commission but revealed that going forward, he will not be employed in judiciary.

“Ssemwogerere Ammaari Musa was appointed a judicial officer on June 12, 2023 by the Judicial Service Commission alongside 86 other persons to the position of Magistrate Grade One on probation. According to the Chief Registrar, Her Worship Sarah Langa Siu, the Judiciary is finalizing the appointment process of the said officers after which they will be sworn in,” the judiciary said in a statement.

At present, the Grade 1 Magistrate is under arrest and faces charges of forgery and impersonation.

He will remain in custody until August 3, 2023. Othembi emphasized that the case will be pursued until prosecution is completed, including holding other responsible individuals accountable.
