Hoima City | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Thousands of enthusiastic participants gathered today in Hoima City to take part in the much-anticipated Kabalega Independence Run 2023, a significant event that marked the 100th anniversary of Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro. The event, which saw extensive security deployment and caused traffic jams across the city, was officially flagged off by Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaaga Ateenyi of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

The event commenced with an invigorating session of aerobics at Hoima Booma Grounds in Hoima City, setting the tone for an inspiring day of celebration and community engagement.

The city streets witnessed a sea of runners as they embarked on the Kabalega Independence Run, creating an inspiring sight for both residents and visitors. City ambulances were strategically placed to ensure the safety of participants and address any unforeseen obstacles that might have arisen during the event.

The Kabalega Independence Run, a well-known annual tradition, received sponsorship from various stakeholders, including Movit, NBS, Airtel, Jornad Conglomerate Investment Ltd and Total Energy. The event was spearheaded by the Kabalega Foundation, a charitable organization committed to promoting education and community development in Bunyoro and beyond.

Dr. James Isagara Kisoro, the Executive Director of the Kabalega Foundation, expressed his appreciation for the runners who contributed to the noble cause of the Kabalega Independence Run, emphasizing its role in supporting education for children.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom used the occasion to call upon subjects and all well-meaning individuals to follow the legacy of Omukama Kabalega Chwa II and actively engage in the development of the kingdom and the entire country.

The event was well-prepared for any emergencies, with the Red Cross on the scene to provide immediate medical assistance to any casualties.

The Kabalega Independence Run 2023 attracted over 3,000 runners, and its primary aim was to mobilize resources for the Kabalega Education Fund. In its inaugural year, the proceeds from the event will be directed towards donating school books to traditional community schools in the greater Bunyoro Region. The long-term vision of the fund is to support economically disadvantaged students nationwide with school fees and scholastic materials while also empowering youth through life skills development programs.

The Kabalega Independence Run is set to become an annual event, contributing to various socioeconomic transformation initiatives and causes.

The Kabalega Independence Run 2023 not only celebrated a century of Omukama Kabalega but also demonstrated the spirit of unity, charity, and commitment to education that continues to thrive in the Bunyoro region and throughout Uganda.
