Kabale District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Kabale District Roads Committee has initiated the utilization of a one-billion-shilling Roads Rehabilitation and Maintenance Grant received from the Uganda Road Fund. The launch of the fund’s utilization took place after a meeting of the District Roads Committee on Saturday, held in the Chairman’s boardroom at the Kabale District headquarters. The meeting, chaired by Hon Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, the District Roads Committee Chairperson and Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, addressed various matters, including the review of the 2022/23 Annual Roads performance report, approval of the Annual Roads Workplan for 2023/24, and the Roads performance report for the 1st and 2nd Quarters of 2023/24.
Attended by notable members such as Hon Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East Mp), Dr Nicholas Kamara (Kabale Municipality MP), Godfrey Nyakakahuma (Kabale Resident District Commissioner), Nelson Nshangabasheija (Kabale District Chairperson), and Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha (Mayor Kabale Municipality), among others, the meeting discussed the allocation of funds for road rehabilitation.
Kabale District boss Nelson Nshangabasheija expressed concern about the insufficiency of the one-billion-shilling budget to address all the roads in the district, particularly given the challenging terrain prone to floods and mudslides.
Hon Atwakiire, presiding over the launch of the road fund, emphasized the urgency of initiating the one-billion-shilling road fund due to the severe impact of heavy rains on district roads. She urged the district leadership to ensure the effective use of the funds and emphasized that proper utilization would enhance the district’s chances of securing future funding for road projects.
