Kamuli District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Police in Kamuli District are currently probing a fire incident at Kamuli Girls Primary School in Bukwenge Cell, Sabawali Parish, Kamuli Municipality.
This incident occurred on the night of October 14, 2023, around midnight, when a dormitory housing 101 P7 candidates caught fire.
Thanks to the quick response of the matron, all students were safely evacuated, preventing potential harm as the fire rapidly spread. The police Fire and Rescue Services team successfully extinguished the flames, though the students’ belongings, including bedding, book-filled metal cases, and personal items, were unfortunately lost in the blaze.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire likely started from an unoccupied lower bed. A student on the upper bunk noticed the increasing heat and promptly alerted the matron. Despite her attempts to control the fire with an extinguisher, it escalated beyond containment, necessitating the evacuation of the students over salvaging their belongings.
ASP Micheal Kasanda, the spokesperson for Busoga North Police, has confirmed the incident and noted that thorough investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of this tragic fire outbreak.
