Lt. Joe Walunsimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, has issued a directive for an unconditional water supply to farmers in the Muhokya mini-irrigation scheme located in Kasese district.

The mini-irrigation scheme has been facing internal disputes, reportedly stemming from the previous leadership’s interference in project management.

During a harmonization meeting held at the Kasese municipal council hall yesterday, Lt. Walunsimbi urged the local leaders in the area to ensure uninterrupted water supply. The objective is to enhance food production for both food security and commercial purposes.

Additionally, Lt. Walunsimbi promised to conduct an investigation into reports of irregularities surrounding the election of the current leadership, which allegedly involved illegal voters. Speaking during the meeting, he stated

.Mr. Andrew Matela, the chairperson of the local council in Rutooke cell, where the irrigation scheme is located, attributes the situation to selfish politics and discrimination by certain political players seeking to cause unnecessary confusion.

Mr. Edward Byaruhanga, the chairperson of the local council in Muhookya Ward, claimed that the elections took place when a majority of eligible voters (farmers) were absent due to a funeral. He also alleged that although the Kasese Resident District had postponed the elections for better preparation, the office of the Chief Administrative Officer allowed it to proceed.

SP Luke Mbusa, the regional Community Liaison Officer, called upon the community members to stay united to ensure peace in the area.
