Kasese, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | It was a momentous day for the resilient and hopeful subjects of the Rwenzururu Kingdom as they welcomed back His Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere, their revered King, after a long seven-year absence following the 2016 Obuhikira raid conducted by security forces.

The events that unfolded during that time led to the arrest of the King and many of his loyal subjects, who faced charges ranging from murder and attempted murder to illegal possession of military weaponry, among other accusations.

The majority of the Banya-Rwenzururu expressed their gratitude to President Museveni for the freedom granted to the King, whom they view as not only their symbolic leader but also a pillar for the region’s development initiatives. Mr. Eriphaz Muhindi, in his address, offered thanks to both God and the government for securing the release of the King, emphasizing the critical role he plays in fostering peace, reconciliation, and unity, which they intend to support for the betterment of the district.

Honorable Peace Regis Mutuuzo, the Woman Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu district and the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, represented President Museveni at the event. She underscored the importance of ensuring the King’s full security as a prerequisite for achieving lasting peace and unity.

As His Majesty continued with his speech at the time of this report, he called upon his subjects to lend their support to any initiatives aimed at promoting peace within the Kingdom and collaboration with the government to harness the region’s wealth.
