Summary:

  • Bihame Derrick was found dead in his friend’s shop in Karumena village, Kisoro, with no apparent injuries, prompting a police investigation and raising concerns about a potential pattern of similar cases in the area.

On December 14, 2023, the residents of Karumena village, located along the Kisoro-Mutolere road, were shocked to discover the lifeless body of Bihame Derrick from Bucece village, Kirundo sub-county, Kisoro district, in the shop of his friend, Ntirubabarira Andrew. Derrick had spent the night there while Andrew attended his father’s burial in Kirundo sub-county.

The shop’s landlord, Henry Hashakimana, also known as Baba, shared that Derrick’s wife, Uwimana Rachael, had raised concerns about her husband sleeping until midday. Responding to this, a resident named Baker, who operated a nearby salon, investigated by peering through the window. To everyone’s dismay, Baker discovered Derrick’s lifeless body with his head on the floor and legs on the bed. Baker accessed the shop and informed Hashakimana.

Upon this shocking revelation, Hashakimana promptly notified the local LCI, who authorized reporting the matter to the police. Daudi Line, the Karumena LCI chairperson, confirmed the incident, noting that Derrick’s body exhibited no visible bruises but showed signs of blood, suspected to have come from the nose. Daudi Line cautioned against spreading rumors, expressing concern that misinformation could incite violence in the community. He highlighted that this was not the first case of a similar nature in the area, citing a previous incident involving an unidentified man.
