Kyabazinga’s Royal Wedding Contribution Hits 1.7 Billion Shillings

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | As the highly-anticipated Busoga Royal Wedding approaches, cash contributions have reached 1.7 billion shillings, thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 18, at Bugembe Christ Cathedral in Jinja, the wedding of the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness William Gabula Nadiope IV, and Ms. Jovia Mutesi is expected to be attended by prominent figures from the eastern region and the central government.

Since the announcement of the new Inhebantu in September, several Ugandan companies have made significant contributions to uphold the culture, values, and traditions of the Basoga. Notable contributors include Next Media Services, a Ugandan media company, with a donation of 500 million shillings, and Nile Breweries Limited, a beer manufacturer, contributing 450 million shillings.

Telecom giants MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda have given 250 million and 265 million shillings, respectively, while Nation Media Group donated 198 million shillings through Eng Patrick Batumbya, the chairperson of the wedding organizing committee.

Following the wedding ceremony at Bugembe Cathedral on November 18, an estimated 3,000 special guests will enjoy a reception at Igenge Palace in Jinja City. The event will also be virtually streamed in twelve other venues across different districts of Busoga Sub-region.

Additionally, clan heads in the Busoga Kingdom have resolved to each provide a cow as their contribution to the royal wedding. Mr. David Iguru Isabirye, the spokesperson of the clan heads, emphasized that this gesture is a form of “parental support to the Kyabazinga,” as royal chiefs are selected from clan members. The Busoga Kingdom comprises over 300 clans within the 11 hereditary chiefdoms.
