Katakwi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A government secondary school in Katakwi District faced disappointment as invited leaders, including Vice President Jessica Alupo and Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, declined to attend a fundraising event. Priscilla Comprehensive School, seeking funds for a girl’s dormitory, resorted to seeking a bank loan from Centenary Bank after the fundraising efforts failed.

Despite inviting various dignitaries and stakeholders, the event saw no participation from leaders, resulting in over a dozen items like bulls, goats, turkeys, chickens, g-nuts, and pumpkins going unsold. The deputy head teacher, Emanuel Icila, expressed disappointment, stating that the fundraising goal was to collect money for the dormitory’s construction.

Icila revealed their plan to secure a bank loan to ensure the completion of the building next year, with an estimated cost of three hundred million shillings. The fundraising efforts yielded only 7 million shillings, and Icila criticized the leaders for not attending or contributing, emphasizing that even sending representatives would have sufficed.

District councilor Hon. Icila the-Joy questioned the leaders’ absence and their tendency to seek chief guest roles but fail to contribute when invited. Koluo Razak, the chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association, thanked the few leaders who participated and urged the public to trust the school.

State Minister for Education and Sports Peter Ogwang pledged support for the construction of an ICT laboratory, commending the Teso Affairs Ministry team’s evaluation of the building. Ogwang, represented by NRM chairperson Richard Opio Edeket, donated Ugx. 5 million towards the construction of the girl’s dormitory.
