Lira, Uganda | Our Reporter | The Black Examiner – The Lira City West Division police force is facing scrutiny following allegations that they attempted to suppress a case of defilement concerning a 14-year-old girl.
Reports indicate that Engineer Gerald Ogoso, responsible for the construction of the residence of Dokolo district woman MP, Cilicia Atim Ogwal, located on Obote Avenue in Lira City, is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor. The incident was reported to the Lira City West Police Station.
Kevin Apili, the victim’s aunt, has disclosed that Eng. Ogoso was apprehended initially. However, it has come to light that his family members have purportedly been issuing threats and attempting to offer bribes in order to persuade the family to withdraw the case. The victim’s family is steadfast in their pursuit of justice for their daughter.
Apili further conveyed that pertinent documents pertaining to the case were allegedly seized by the police of Lira City West Division. Among these documents is a medical report, endorsed by Dr. Francis Olwa, confirming the defilement suffered by the victim.
According to the victim, Gerald Ogoso, who happens to be a romantic partner of her aunt, assaulted her while the aunt was asleep. He is reported to have amplified the volume of the radio to muffle any potential outcry and menaced the victim with a knife to deter her from raising an alarm.
The case, classified as aggravated defilement, has been logged under reference number O4/05/08/23 at Lira City West Division, implicating Engineer Ogoso.
Despite efforts, communication with the North Kyoga Region police spokesperson, Superintendent Jimmy Patrick Okema, was unavailing as of the time of this press release.
