Luwero Christians Insist on Holding Prayers for Rev. Godfrey Kasana

Can. Godfrey Kasana

Luwero District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A section of Christians in Luweero has insisted on claiming that Reverend Canon Godfrey Kasana Ssemakulu is the rightful Bishop over their area.

The Christians have made it routine practice to meet in different places every week to hold prayers for Rev Kasana, with faith that he will eventually be ordained as their Bishop.

At the moment, a court case that was filed at Luwero High Court under Judge Henrietta Wolayo suing Arch Bishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu over the nullification of Kasana’s appointment as Luwero’s 4th Bishop, has been moved to the Principal judge in Kamapala.

It is now coming to three months since the Provincial secretary of the Church of Uganda, Rev Canon Wiliam Ogeng announced that the House of Bishops sitting in Hoima on June 28,2023, had resolved to nullify Rev Kasana’s election.

Kasana’s election was nullified on grounds of question of his integrity with report of him being caught up in adultery.

Since then, the Christians that did not agree with the decision have organized prayers with the theme that “The God who chose Rev Kasana initially, strengthen him in faith and vindicate him.”

Sam Sserunjoji one of the Christians attending these prayers urged his fellows during their gathering stay united and aware of the cause for the meeting, which he said was to see their true bishop restored to them.

“We are here to pray and intercede to see that God does wonders in our midst.”

Abel Sserwanja, part of the clergy in Luwero also told the faithful that God had already spoken through Bishop Kasana’s initial election, however this was just a battle to fight through prayer for people the devil is using to frustrate the bishop.

“God already showed us His power when our Bishop Kasana was elected at first. Its just some individuals frustrating it and we are going to pray against that spirit,” Sserwanja told them.

In the meantime, James William Ssebagala a retired Bishop of Mukono continues to serve as the care taker of Luwero diocese until March 2024.
