Authorities in Mityana have detained a suspect and initiated an investigation into a case of child trafficking that transpired on July 11, 2023.
On July 11, 2023, at 06:27 p.m., Bakajjube Zaverio, a 46-year-old male inhabitant of Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division in Mityana District, reported her disappearance at Namukoozi Police Post.
The report states that on July 11, 2023, at approximately 1300 hours, Nanyondo Sharifa, a 3-year-old girl who is the daughter of Kiyemba Ismail and Nankinga Betty, vanished from Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana district.
Nanyondo Sharifa is the granddaughter of Bakajjube Zaverio. The teen was last seen with Najemba Hamidah’s maid, a neighbour.
Najjemba Hamidah was detained as a suspect to help with the continuing investigation after a crime scene examination was completed.
Nakimera, Najjemba Hamidah’s maid, is suspected of trafficking the victim. She had just been in the region for two days. Najjemba Hamidah is said to have transported Nakimera to Kikumbi Cell.
Based on preliminary investigations, it appears that the suspect is from the Mityana District’s Banda village.
