Man, 35, stabbed to death in Alebtong

The Alebtong District territorial police are presently looking into a suspected murder by stabbing involving a 35-year-old man named Okul Stephen. The incident took place on January 12, 2024, around 21:00 hours in Oloi Village, Tetyang Parish, Itek Sub-County, Lira District.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson, reported that Angerai Isaac, a 38-year-old councilor and resident of Awepek Village, Awepek Ward, Alebtong District, filed the report at Aloi Police Station.

The information received by OC Aloi police post indicates that Okul Stephen had a dispute with Ojok Ivan, leading to a physical altercation. During the fight, Ojok Ivan allegedly used a knife to stab Okul Stephen on the left side of the neck, resulting in severe bleeding and loss of consciousness. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries on the veranda of Okello Jasper, the bar owner where the incident occurred.

In response, an enraged mob attacked Ojok Ivan, throwing stones and bricks at him. Ojok Ivan sustained significant head injuries and was promptly taken to Alebtong Health Center IV for initial aid. Ongoing efforts aim to locate Mr. Okello Jasper, the bar owner, for a statement to support the ongoing investigation.

The crime scene has been visited and documented, and Okul Stephen’s body has been transported to Alebtong Health Centre IV pending a postmortem examination. A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the crime, has been recovered and documented as evidence.

A murder case has been officially registered at Alebtong Central Police Station as the investigation unfolds. The police extend their condolences and encourage the public to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts within the community through local leadership channels.
