Man Arrested for Poisoning 7 Goats Purchased with PDM Funds

Kagadi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Deogratious Begumisa, a 50-year-old resident of Rugashari sub-county, is in Kagadi police custody, accused of fatally poisoning seven goats owned by his wife, Christine Nyarabakire. These goats had been acquired using funds from the Parish Development Model-PDM.

The incident allegedly occurred on September 20th, 2022, when Begumisa requested 50,000 Shillings from Nyarabakire, a portion of the 1 million Shillings she had obtained through the Parish Development Model-PDM, for a drinking outing. However, Nyarabakire declined the request.

The following day, using the PDM funds, Nyarabakire purchased seven goats for her livestock. In response, Begumisa, reportedly furious, procured poison and administered it to all seven goats, causing their immediate demise. Subsequently, he went into hiding.

Nyarabakire reported the incident to Kagadi police, leading to an investigation and a search for the suspect. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, announced the successful apprehension of the suspect on Tuesday. Begumisa was subsequently taken to Kagadi Central Police Station, where he remains in custody.

Hakiza further revealed that the police have filed charges of animal cruelty against Begumisa and forwarded his case file to the Resident State Attorney for evaluation and further legal action.
