Abuja, Nigeria | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 67-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Clement, at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He was caught with 100 cocaine wraps he had ingested. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Chukwuemeka was arrested on Tuesday, October 3, during the clearance of passengers from Ethiopian Airlines flight 951, arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A body scan revealed multiple cocaine pellets in his stomach, and he eventually excreted 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195 kilograms in four separate instances.

Chukwuemeka, a 69-year-old man, claimed to have spent 30 years in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand. He mentioned losing his wife without having any children. He confessed to engaging in drug trafficking to raise money to marry a new wife and start life anew.

In addition to Chukwuemeka’s arrest, NDLEA operatives also apprehended Auwal Bindow with 50,000 tramadol capsules along the Bauchi-Gombe expressway in Gombe State on Friday, October 6. On Wednesday, October 4, during a patrol along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, anti-drug agency officers arrested Anuoluwapo Blessing Iyanu, a 32-year-old suspect, with 52 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 30 kilograms, shaped like pawpaws.

The NDLEA’s various commands throughout the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign during the past week. Activities included WADA sensitization lectures at schools such as Igbonnibi High School in Ila Orangun, Osun State; Royal Ambassador Secondary School in Makurdi, Benue State; Ilora Baptist Grammar School in Ilora, Oyo State; and LGA WADA sensitization lectures for students at Beth-Root Model Secondary School in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, commended the anti-narcotics officers for their exceptional achievements during the past week. He also praised their counterparts in all the commands across the country for intensifying their WADA advocacy lectures while maintaining a balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction activities.
