Kikube District | The Black Examiner – Police in Kikuube District have apprehended a 23-year-old individual on suspicion of fatally stabbing his colleague.

The suspect, Charles Muhanguzi, allegedly engaged in a deadly altercation with Everest Byamukama, aged 25, both of whom were residents of Wairagaza village in Butoole parish, Kyangwali sub-county.

Reportedly, the incident unfolded on Tuesday at approximately 4 p.m. within a bar at Wairagaza trading center. Muhanguzi and Byamukama reportedly quarreled, ostensibly sparked by an unidentified woman.

In the midst of the dispute, Muhanguzi brandished a knife, subsequently using it to stab Byamukama in his neck and chest.

Tragically, Byamukama passed away upon arrival at the St. Nicholas Medical Center in Kyangwali sub-county. Medical staff’s efforts to save him were ultimately in vain due to the severe nature of his injuries.

Alex Twesigye, a boda boda rider and a close friend of the deceased, recounted the events of that fateful day. He explained that he and Byamukama were together, socializing at the bar. Twesigye briefly left the establishment but soon heard Byamukama’s cries for assistance. When they rushed back, they found him in critical condition, bleeding profusely. Despite their swift attempt to seek medical help, Byamukama’s life could not be saved.

Julius Hakiza, spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, confirmed that the suspect is presently held at Kikuube Central Police Station. Legal proceedings are underway, with the suspect expected to face charges of murder.

According to Hakiza, the postmortem report indicates that the cause of death was excessive bleeding resulting from the sustained injuries.
