Mbale City Pastor on a Ministry Mission Killed in Fuel Tanker Crash

Mbale City | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Pastor Bernard Wabomba, a resident of Busiu, tragically lost his life on October 3, 2023, around noon. He was involved in a fatal collision with a South Sudan registered fuel tanker bearing reg number SSD 153Q/SSDNO 286 while riding a motorcycle on the Mbale-Tororo highway near Harred petrol station, opposite Mbale police barracks. The pastor was en route to minister to a patient at Mbale Referral Hospital.

According to Roger Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the fuel tanker, traveling from Mbale to Tororo, attempted to overtake a parked taxi on the roadside. In the process, the tanker struck Pastor Wabomba, who was riding a bajaji motorcycle with the registration number UFV 469L, leading to his immediate demise.

Following the incident, the tanker’s driver abandoned the vehicle at the Uganda Roads Authority offices and fled the scene. Another motorcycle rider suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital with visible injuries.


At the time of this report, the deceased boda boda rider’s body had been taken to the Mbale City mortuary for postmortem, while the injured individual was still undergoing treatment at the same facility. Police indicated that once the driver responsible for the accident is apprehended, he will face charges of murder and reckless driving.
