Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has pledged to enforce rule 112(6) of parliamentary procedure on MPs missing 15 consecutive plenary sittings, resulting in the loss of their seats. This statement comes in response to persistent boycotts by Opposition MPs, who are demanding government action on human rights violations, the disappearance of 18 NUP supporters, and prolonged detention of political prisoners.

Speaker Among advised the opposition to rejoin parliamentary sessions to address their concerns within the chambers instead of protesting outside. She assured the opposition that the government would respond to their demands on November 21, 2023. The Opposition has been boycotting parliamentary plenary sittings for three weeks now.
