Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will deliver a national address on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 8 PM.” The address will primarily revolve around the Independence Day theme and important national matters, and the public is encouraged to tune in to the live broadcast.

This year, the 61st Independence Day celebrations will be held in Kitgum District, Acholi sub-region, Northern Uganda, under the theme “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation, Taking charge of our Future as a free nation.” President Museveni is expected to be the chief guest at the event.

The statement also highlights the significance of Independence Day in Uganda, which is celebrated annually on October 9th, marking the country’s liberation from the United Kingdom in 1962. Before gaining independence, Uganda had been a British protectorate since 1894, with the UK exercising administrative control over the territory. Uganda finally achieved independence on October 9, 1962, although its post-independence history has been marked by significant events, including periods of turmoil such as the eight-year military dictatorship led by Idi Amin.
